Islamabad to Become ‘Free Wi-Fi City’ with 30 Public Spots in First Phase
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has launched an ambitious initiative to transform the federal capital into a “Free Wi-Fi City.”
According to CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the project aims to provide free internet access to citizens and tourists at major public spots across Islamabad. He confirmed that the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) will manage and operate the Wi-Fi system, while CDA’s technical teams will offer support.
To keep the project sustainable, the CDA is working on a marketing and revenue model. The income generated will be reinvested to maintain and upgrade the service over time.
Randhawa added that this initiative is part of the broader vision of making Islamabad a Smart City, where citizens can benefit from modern technology, enhanced connectivity, and convenient online services.
In the first phase, free Wi-Fi will be available at 30 public locations across the capital. These include metro and feeder bus stations, public parks, and other busy public areas, ensuring both residents and visitors can stay connected.
This step is expected to significantly improve digital accessibility and public convenience, making Islamabad one of the pioneering cities in Pakistan to adopt such modern smart city initiatives.
