Pakistan Army Deployed in Six Punjab Districts to Tackle Flood Situation
Lahore: The Pakistan Army has been deployed in six districts of Punjab to assist civil authorities in managing the ongoing flood situation.
According to details, heavy water inflows from India into Pakistani rivers have created a potential flood threat. In response, the Punjab government approved the deployment of the Army to ensure the safety of lives and timely rescue operations.
The districts where Army troops have been deployed include Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Narowal, and Okara. The decision was made following a request by the district administrations of these areas.
Currently, district administration, Rescue 1122, Civil Defence, and police are already engaged in relief and rescue operations. The Punjab Home Department formally sent a request to the Federal Interior Ministry, after which the Army was called in.
The number of Army personnel in each district will be determined in consultation with local authorities. If required, Army Aviation and additional resources will also be provided in the affected areas.
A government spokesperson confirmed that the Punjab government and all relevant departments are monitoring the situation round the clock.
Security sources added that rescue operations by the Army are already under way in Lahore, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Sialkot, and Narowal.
