CDA Approves Emergency Services Upgrade in Islamabad
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has approved a major initiative to modernize and expand emergency services in Islamabad, with the goal of enhancing disaster preparedness and ensuring public safety. The decisions were taken during the 15th CDA Board meeting held on Wednesday.
As part of the plan, a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center will be established to monitor and coordinate rescue efforts in real time. Additionally, 12 new rescue stations will be set up across the capital, while a motorbike rescue unit comprising around 50 motorcycles will be launched to improve accessibility in densely populated and congested areas.
The board further sanctioned new recruitments for vacant posts and the introduction of specialized training programs to strengthen staff capacity. To upgrade operational capacity, CDA will procure advanced rescue vehicles, water rescue vans, and other modern equipment, with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) providing technical support for equipment vetting. Approval was also granted to finalize Capital Emergency Service Regulations.
Moreover, the board authorized the hiring of a consultant to enable Islamabad’s participation in international carbon credit mechanisms. This move aims to highlight the city’s initiatives in afforestation, forest protection, and pollution reduction.
