Maryam Nawaz Assesses Ravi River’s Flood Situation on Boat

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz boarded a boat to inspect the flood situation at Shahdara on the River Ravi.

Punjab Chief Minister reviewed the river while seated in a boat, accompanied by Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and several Punjab cabinet ministers. During the visit, the Chief Minister was briefed on the current flood situation and ongoing measures to address it.

Speaking to the media in Shahdara, she explained that the province’s three rivers faced extreme water pressure, with water levels exceeding expectations.

She noted that the Punjab administration had relocated 50,000 people to safe areas and assured that the losses of those affected by the floods would be compensated. She also said that homes built in water channels would be removed.

Maryam Nawaz described the situation in Narowal as completely submerged, while Gujrat and Sialkot were also facing serious flooding. She praised all deputy commissioners, Civil Defense, and rescue teams for their efforts in assisting affected residents.

The Chief Minister added that she had never seen so much water in the Ravi River and highlighted the need for better infrastructure, water storage, and dams, emphasizing that water is a blessing from Allah that should be properly stored.

She instructed relevant departments to develop programs for harvesting rainwater and storing floodwater.

Earlier, she, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected regions, receiving updates on rescue operations and ongoing relief efforts.

Meanwhile, Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb informed the media that 12 people have died so far due to flood-related incidents. She emphasized that all rescue agencies are active, the government remains fully committed to supporting affected communities, and the nation will come together to overcome this natural disaster.
