UN Announces $600,000 Aid for Pakistan Flood Victims
The United Nations has released USD 600,000 in emergency assistance to help families in Pakistan affected by recent monsoon rains and severe flooding.
This announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Secretary-General during a press briefing in New York.
The Secretary-General’s spokesperson stated that over the past ten days, the rains and floods have caused widespread devastation, resulting in more than 400 deaths and over 190 injuries, while over 20,000 people have been displaced, waiting for shelter, medical assistance, and cash support.
The UN has warned that immediate measures are urgently needed in affected areas to ensure access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and protection for women and girls.
The spokesperson added that the heavy rains and flooding, ongoing since June 26, have reached a critical level.
According to local authorities, nationwide flooding and landslides have so far claimed 798 lives and injured more than 1,000 people, including women and children.
The UN has urged the international community to show solidarity with Pakistan and come forward to assist the victims.
UN agencies are working alongside local authorities and partner organizations to continue relief efforts and provide immediate support to affected communities.
