1948 Pakistan 100-Rupee Note Now Worth Millions

29 August, 2025 18:39

If you have an old Pakistani banknote, you might be holding a fortune. The 100-rupee note issued in 1948, just after Pakistan’s independence, is now valued in the millions.

Why These Notes Are Rare

  • These notes were printed when Pakistan’s currency was managed by the Reserve Bank of India.

  • They carried the words “Government of Pakistan” in both Urdu and English.

  • Very few were issued, making them extremely rare today.

What Makes Them Valuable

  • Small Prefix: Notes with serial numbers starting with one or two letters (like A or AB) are highly prized.

  • Condition: “Uncirculated” notes — with no folds, stains, or tears — sell for much higher prices.

  • Signatures: Notes signed by RBI governors such as C.D. Deshmukh or H.V.R. Iengar are in demand.

  • Special Features: Misprints or very low serial numbers (like 000001) fetch premium rates.

Current Market Value (2025)

  • Circulated notes: Rs. 50,000 – Rs. 150,000

  • Uncirculated notes: Rs. 500,000 – Rs. 800,000

  • Small-prefix or star-mark notes: Rs. 800,000 – Rs. 1,200,000

  • Misprints: Up to Rs. 1,500,000

How to Sell

Experts suggest authenticating your note through professional services like Paper Money Guaranty (PMG). After authentication, notes can be sold on online platforms such as CoinBazzar.com, BidCurios.com, or eBay.

A Piece of Pakistan’s History

Collectors worldwide see the 1948 Rs.100 note as the “holy grail” of Pakistani currency, representing the birth of the country’s economy and a symbol of its independence.
