PM Orders Faceless Customs Inspections to Boost Trade
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed authorities to modernize Pakistan’s customs system by introducing faceless inspections and assessments using modern technology.
Chairing a review meeting on customs reforms, the prime minister emphasized that the aim of these changes is to facilitate exporters and importers, reduce delays, and boost national revenue.
He instructed that the time required for customs inspections should be minimized and administrative procedures simplified. The prime minister also stressed the need for coordination among all relevant institutions under a joint strategy to ensure smooth implementation of reforms.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that enhancing business, trade, and investment through economic reforms is a top government priority, and international best practices should be adopted in the customs system.
To ensure fairness, he directed that appeals filed by businessmen against customs assessments should be heard by impartial officers. He also called for better planning to manage the growing volume of cargo at ports and ensure faster movement of goods to their destinations.
The government, he added, is fully determined to achieve the goals of economic development, prosperity, and improved trade and investment through these reforms.
