Sindh Not at Major Risk from Floods: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab

Karachi: The Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, has confirmed that Sindh is not at major risk from floods and that the overall situation in the province is satisfactory.

Murtaza Wahab assured that full arrangements have been made for any flood-related emergencies in Karachi. He noted that the flood pressure is currently on the River Ravi and that all MNAs and MPAs have been assigned duties. He also mentioned that the Minister of Irrigation is present in the field to monitor the situation.

The Mayor announced that three major roads in Karachi are being converted to solar energy. He also revealed that the Metropolitan Corporation has converted its building to solar energy, and the Malir pumping stations have also been shifted to solar power. Additionally, a charging station has been set up in the Metropolitan Corporation Karachi building. Wahab expressed his desire to have EV bike charging stations at various locations across the city.

On administrative matters, Wahab stated that government employees are employees of the government. He criticized the practice of demanding salary increases through strikes or boycotts, saying, “If salary is low, then you don’t work.” He praised KMC’s 13,000 employees for continuing to work even during rain.

Regarding the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the Mayor warned that the hospital is on the verge of collapse. He said that doctors’ attempts to apply pressure to get work done are misguided and reiterated that the method of increasing salaries through boycotts is not correct.
