Rain Spell to Continue Across Pakistan Till September, NDMA Issues Warning

30 August, 2025 10:56

The Pakistan Meteorological Department announced on Saturday that the ongoing monsoon spell will continue across most parts of the country until September 1.

Thunderstorms and rainfall are expected in Islamabad and various regions of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir over the next few days. The Met Office has warned that heavy showers may lead to flooding in low-lying areas of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, while landslides could occur in Malakand and Hazara divisions.

In Punjab, strong downpours are likely in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and surrounding districts. Similarly, in Azad Kashmir, areas including Kotli, Bagh, Mirpur, Poonch, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Haveli are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, raising the risk of urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

Karachi and other coastal areas of Sindh may also face waterlogging and urban flooding due to intense showers. In Gilgit-Baltistan, authorities have cautioned that heavy rains could trigger landslides and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods in districts such as Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, and Ghanche.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged tourists to avoid traveling to northern regions until the weather system weakens on September 1. Meanwhile, rescue teams have been placed on high alert to deal with any emergency situation.
