31 August, 2025 19:29

LAHORE – Pakistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that India has released water from its dams, triggering a high-level flood alert at Harike point in the Sutlej River.

According to the PDMA spokesperson, Pakistan has officially received a warning of high flood at Harike. However, no official alert has been issued regarding the release of water into the Chenab River or other rivers. The spokesperson also clarified that there is no official communication about the opening of spillways at Salal Dam so far.

DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia stated that on the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, civil administration and all relevant institutions have been placed on high alert. He added that the situation in the rivers is being monitored 24/7 to ensure timely response in case of any emergency.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious and follow safety advisories as flood risks remain high.
