KP CM Gandapur Voices Strong Support for Kalabagh Dam Construction

PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has openly expressed his support for the construction of the long-debated Kalabagh Dam, calling it vital for Pakistan’s future energy and water security.

Speaking on the issue, the Chief Minister stressed that Pakistan is facing an alarming energy crisis and acute water shortage, which demands urgent action and investment in large-scale water projects. According to him, Kalabagh Dam could play a key role in meeting the country’s electricity and irrigation needs.

Gandapur emphasized that it is time to rise above personal or political differences and make decisions purely in the national interest. He said that delaying such projects only increases the challenges for future generations.

He further added that Pakistan must focus on building major dams along with smaller reservoirs to conserve water, boost agriculture, and reduce dependency on expensive energy imports.

The statement from the KP Chief Minister is expected to reignite debate on Kalabagh Dam, which has remained one of the most controversial but potentially transformative water projects in Pakistan’s history.
