NDMA Issues Flood Alert as Rivers Swell

01 September, 2025 22:33

ISLAMABAD – The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert, warning of possible heavy flooding in parts of Punjab and Kashmir due to rains and water releases from reservoirs.

According to the NDMA, the Chenab River at Marala is flowing at 94,728 cusecs, with the risk of flooding in upper areas of Nallah Ben, Bastar, and Dek linked to the Ravi River. The flow of water in the Sutlej River has also reached 253,068 cusecs.

Authorities said water levels are expected to rise further in Kashmir because of rains and discharge from the Salal, Baglihar, and Dal reservoirs. An additional 300,000 cusecs of water may flow into upper areas due to further rainfall and dam releases.

The NDMA has advised local residents, farmers, and institutions to stay on high alert and take precautionary measures. Rescue and relief operations are being closely monitored on the instructions of the Prime Minister.
