Maryam Nawaz Visits Flood-Hit Areas, Rescues Stranded Families
MULTAN – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the Head Muhammad Wala breach point on Wednesday to review flood conditions and relief operations.
Members of Parliament praised her efforts to protect Multan city from devastating floodwaters. During her visit, Maryam Nawaz personally received a stranded family from the riverbank after they were rescued by teams along with their livestock. Grateful victims thanked the CM, with an elderly woman praying for her, saying: “You came to share our pain, may God bless you.”
The Chief Minister said, “I am here to stand with my brothers and sisters trapped by floods. I am happy you and your animals are safe.”
Maryam Nawaz also observed rescue operations using a thermal imaging drone, capable of flying up to 8 kilometers for 45 minutes. She monitored the situation live from the PDMA disaster van and instructed officials to provide more disaster vans for relief efforts.
Briefings revealed that:
Around 150 feet of Multan’s river area is directly affected.
138 villages have been hit by floodwaters.
Over 364,000 people, the largest affected population in Punjab, are suffering in Multan.
More than 120,000 animals have been rescued.
25 relief camps are sheltering 7,862 flood victims.
Each camp provides three daily meals, 24-hour medical facilities, and mosquito and disinfectant sprays. Maryam Nawaz also directed staff to ensure milk and other essentials for children in the camps.
The CM’s hands-on involvement and personal interaction with victims drew wide appreciation from local communities.
