British Council to Train 30,000 Teachers Across Sindh

04 September, 2025 13:58

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday inaugurated the second phase of the English as a Subject for Teachers & Educators (EaSTE-II) programme in collaboration with the British Council, marking a significant step in strengthening teacher capacity across the province.

At the launch ceremony held at CM House, Shah highlighted the initiative as a milestone in Sindh’s education reforms. The programme will provide training to 30,000 new primary and early childhood teachers, along with 1,000 mentors and 35 course leaders, expanding the achievements of the first phase.

The CM said EaSTE-II is designed to equip educators with professional skills and confidence at the start of their careers, ensuring continuous learning and development. “Education is the cornerstone of progress, and in Sindh we are committed to empowering those who shape our future — our teachers,” he stated.

Aligned with Sindh’s Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Model 2022 and the Early Childhood Care & Education and Foundational Learning Policy 2024, the programme integrates teacher training into the broader reform framework. Shah stressed the importance of English in providing access to global opportunities while maintaining respect for local languages. The initiative will focus on female teachers, minorities, and educators with disabilities, ultimately benefiting around two million students in public schools.

Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah underscored that strong language skills support learning across all disciplines. “Language is not just a subject, it is the bridge to knowledge, thinking, and expression,” he said, calling EaSTE-II a project that unlocks learning in classrooms.

British Council Country Director James Hampson noted that EaSTE is a digital CPD programme aimed at strengthening teachers’ English proficiency. The event was attended by British Deputy High Commissioner Lance Domm, British Council Regional Director Sarah Rogerson, and education experts.

Concluding, the CM thanked the British Council and UK government, saying, “this initiative is not just an investment in teachers but in the future of Sindh.”
