China has always supported Pakistan in difficult times: PM Shehbaz
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that China has always supported Pakistan during times of crisis.
Speaking at a B2B China-Pakistan investment event, he said: “China played a central role in guiding Pakistan’s economy towards recovery.” He added that the “China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had helped revive agriculture in the country.”
The PM said Chinese cooperation made possible the construction of dams and the Orange Line project. Referring to Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said: “All promises made with Pakistan had been fulfilled.”
He highlighted that the friendship between China and Pakistan is based on trust, cooperation, and respect. According to him, it is “deeper than the sea, stronger than iron and sweeter than honey.”
Shehbaz Sharif said the transfer of Chinese industries to Pakistan would bring opportunities, including affordable labour and facilities, and described China as Pakistan’s “second home.” He assured that the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan was a top priority and there would be no compromise on their protection.
Meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang
PM Shehbaz’s visit to China entered a new phase as he met Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing. Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress in bilateral relations and signed several agreements under CPEC Phase 2.
The priority sectors included agriculture, mining, textiles, industry, and IT. They also expanded cooperation in science, technology, media, and other areas. A joint action plan was signed to strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between the two countries.
The prime minister thanked Chinese leadership for supporting Pakistan’s sovereignty and development. He said the success of Pakistan’s reform agenda was possible because of China’s consistent backing.
Economic and Connectivity Projects
During the talks, Shehbaz Sharif announced Pakistan’s plan to issue Panda Bonds in China’s capital market. He also emphasized quick progress on connectivity projects, including the re-alignment of the Karakoram Highway, the Main Line-1 railway upgrade, and the operational use of Gwadar Port.
He also mentioned the upcoming investment conference in Beijing, where more than 300 Pakistani and 500 Chinese companies are expected to participate.
After the meetings, Chinese Premier Li Qiang hosted a luncheon for PM Shehbaz and his delegation, showing the commitment of both nations to economic progress and long-term partnership.
