Punjab Floods Update: 46 Lives Lost, 3.5 Million Affected, 30,000 Displaced
Punjab continues to battle severe flooding that has so far claimed 46 lives and affected around 3.5 million people.
According to Director General PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, nearly 3,944 villages have been impacted, while 25,000 to 30,000 people are currently staying in relief camps. He reported that over 1.496 million people have been rescued and more than 1 million animals relocated to safer areas.
Kathia further stated that at Sadhnai, water from the Ravi River is flowing back instead of merging into the Chenab. The situation will persist until the Chenab’s water level decreases.
Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division has warned of high-level flooding in the Ravi River at Baloki, where inflow and outflow stand at 114,130 cusecs. At Sadhnai, the river faces extremely high-level flooding with 160,580 cusecs inflow and 157,580 cusecs outflow.
At Jassar, the Ravi River is experiencing medium-level flooding, with both inflow and outflow recorded at 85,980 cusecs.
