Number Plate Transfers Now Automatic for Registered Vehicle Owners
LAHORE: Starting September 1, the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has implemented an automated system to transfer number plates to registered vehicle owners without requiring a formal application.
Previously, vehicle owners had to submit applications to transfer number plates into their names. Under the new system, the department has automatically updated the ownership details for over 23.6 million vehicles and motorcycles.
Director General Excise, Umar Sher Chattha, confirmed that this initiative covers a broad range of vehicles registered across Punjab, including nearly 20 million motorcycles, more than 2.1 million cars, over 600,000 rickshaws, 200,000 pickups, 100,000 trucks, more than 500,000 tractors, 131,000 delivery vans, over 100,000 buses, and 51,000 mini-buses. The number plates have been updated to reflect the names of the current owners based on their national identity cards.
This automated process is expected to streamline paperwork and enhance transparency in vehicle ownership records throughout the province.
