Strategic China Ties, Better US Relations Key for Pakistan: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan seeks to strengthen relations with the United States while further improving its strategic partnership with China.
Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet, the prime minister paid tribute to Major Adnan Aslam, who embraced martyrdom fighting militants. He praised the courage of Major Adnan’s family, who said they were proud of his sacrifice.
“Our security forces have written a history of sacrifice. Because of their bravery, we are breathing in a free atmosphere. We must always remain grateful to our martyrs,” the prime minister remarked.
PM Shehbaz condemned anti-state propaganda on social media, particularly by elements abroad, and urged citizens to identify those maligning national institutions.
“It is our foremost duty to eliminate the menace of terrorism. Hate-driven campaigns and propaganda against Pakistan’s institutions are unacceptable,” he added.
Highlighting his recent visit to China, the PM termed it “highly successful” and stressed the need for strong follow-up on business agreements. He said Pakistan has also signed MoUs with American companies in the mining and minerals sector, with initial investments worth $500 million.
“Pakistan is rich in resources in Balochistan, Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. We must strengthen our economic ties with the US while improving our strategic relations with China,” he said.
The prime minister directed authorities to assess damages caused by ongoing floods. He said thousands of acres of crops have been submerged in Punjab, while floodwaters are now moving towards Sindh.
“Climate change cannot be tackled overnight, but we must prepare for its long-term impacts,” he stressed.
Condemning Israeli aggression, Shehbaz Sharif said: “The brutality against Palestinians in Qatar is unprecedented in history. Pakistan stands firmly with Qatar and the Palestinian people in this difficult hour.”
He confirmed that Pakistan immediately issued a statement condemning the attack and assured the Emir of Qatar of Pakistan’s full solidarity.
