Punjab Launches Airlift Drone Service for Flood Rescue Operations

11 September, 2025 14:06

The Punjab government has introduced an emergency airlift drone service to strengthen rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas. The specially designed drone can lift and transport individuals weighing up to 200 kilograms.

Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi ordered the immediate deployment of the drone to Multan to assist stranded residents. Prior to its use, Civil Defense successfully conducted test flights over the Ravi River in Lahore.

Dr. Qazi also revealed that the government plans to acquire 10 additional drones, making Punjab the first province in Pakistan to establish such a service. He emphasized, “This drone service will allow us to rescue people from areas that are otherwise too dangerous or inaccessible.” He further noted that the Home Department is providing Civil Defense with modern equipment and international-standard training to improve emergency response.

Civil Defense teams, he highlighted, play a critical role in saving lives, moving victims and livestock to safety, and ensuring the provision of food, shelter, and medical aid. This week, more than 4,000 citizens registered as Civil Defense volunteers via the government’s online portal.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Maryam Khan reported ongoing de-watering efforts at Mohlanwal Theme Park. She confirmed that 17 de-watering machines, five cranes, and temporary drains are operating at key points. “So far, more than half of the floodwater has been cleared from low-lying areas of the park,” she added, following her inspection on the Chief Minister’s directions.
