Death toll from Punjab floods rises to 101: PDMA
At least 101 people have died in the worst floods to hit Punjab in decades, according to Irfan Ali Kathia, the head of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Speaking from the Commissioner’s Office in Bahawalpur, Kathia called this the biggest disaster Punjab has ever faced. Nearly 5,000 villages have been flooded, causing widespread damage.
The Sutlej River has risen dramatically this season, reaching 385,000 cusecs of water flow. In fact, three major rivers in Punjab are experiencing serious flooding all at the same time.
The situation is especially bad in areas like Jalalpur Pirwala, where many local communities have been hit hard by the floodwaters.
Rescue teams are working around the clock to help those affected, but the scale of the disaster has made it very challenging to provide enough resources and aid.
