State cannot afford loss of lives every year, Field Marshal says during visit to flood-hit areas

September 13, 2025 – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, visited the flood-hit areas of Kasur Sector and Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan to assess the situation and review ongoing rescue and relief efforts. His visit focused on ensuring better coordination between the civil administration and the Pakistan Army for effective support to the affected families.

According to ISPR, COAS received a detailed briefing on the ground situation. Officials informed him about the scale of damage, current rescue missions, and relief operations. Chief Secretary Punjab and senior civil officers were also present.

Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the importance of good governance and people-focused development. He stressed that infrastructure projects to protect communities from recurring floods must be completed quickly. He said Pakistan cannot afford to lose lives and properties every year due to poor preparations.

While meeting flood affectees, who were safely evacuated by the Pakistan Army and civil administration, COAS assured them of continued support in their resettlement and rehabilitation. The affectees expressed deep gratitude to the Army for its timely response during this crisis.

The Army Chief also met troops, Rescue 1122 teams, and police officials working in flood relief. He praised their high morale and dedication. He said their tireless efforts in close cooperation with civil administration are a true example of service to the nation.

Later, Field Marshal Asim Munir carried out an aerial reconnaissance of the flood-affected regions along the Lahore-Kasur and Multan-Jalalpur Pirwala axes. This helped him assess the scale of damage and the progress of relief activities.

Upon his arrival in the flood-affected areas, COAS was received by Corps Commanders of Lahore and Multan.
