PM Orders Suspension of Electricity Bill Collection in Flood-Hit Areas
ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that electricity bills for August should not be collected from consumers in flood-affected areas.
The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by the prime minister on electricity bill relief for flood victims. He announced that a detailed relief package for affected families will be finalized and formally announced once discussions with the IMF are complete.
PM Shehbaz further said that those consumers who have already paid their August bills will have the amount adjusted in their next month’s bill. He emphasized that the devastating floods have affected millions of people across Pakistan, and the government is committed to easing their suffering.
The prime minister added that federal and provincial institutions are working together on rescue and rehabilitation operations, and vowed not to rest until every flood-affected family returns home. Energy Minister Awais Leghari confirmed that August electricity bills in flood-hit areas have been waived and that collected amounts will be refunded, with the Power Division ensuring immediate implementation.
