The Government of Pakistan has officially declared 23 September 2025 (Tuesday) as a nationwide public holiday, according to a federal notification. The decision aims to mark an important cultural and national observance, giving citizens the opportunity to rest, spend time with families, and participate in community events.

As per the announcement, all government offices, schools, colleges, and most private institutions will remain closed, while banks and financial institutions will observe a holiday except for essential emergency services.

Authorities highlighted that the move is designed to promote unity, reflection, and participation in national and religious gatherings. Communities across Pakistan are expected to organize prayers and cultural events, while many families may use the midweek break for short trips or quality time together.

Key impacts of the holiday include:

  • Schools & Colleges: Closed nationwide.
  • Government Offices: Federal and provincial offices shut.
  • Banks: Observing a bank holiday, with online/mobile banking services available.
  • Transport: Inter-city travel likely to increase due to family trips.

Officials noted the holiday would also enhance work-life balance, offering Pakistanis a much-needed pause from their busy routines.

Earlier this year, Pakistan observed public holidays for Independence Day (14 August) and Muharram. With the new declaration, September 2025 marks another important day of observance. The next expected nationwide holidays include October 2025 and Iqbal Day (9 November 2025).
