New gas connection fees for houses in Pakistan announced – check details
Consumers new gas connections can be apply for through website and mobile app
ISLAMABAD, September 17, 2025 – The federal government has officially approved re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) connections for domestic consumers across Pakistan. A notification issued by the Petroleum Division confirmed that the federal cabinet had approved the policy, along with a clear fee structure and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Ban on New Domestic Gas Connections
Under the new decision, there will be a permanent ban on fresh domestic connections using indigenous natural gas. Nearly 3 million pending applications for traditional gas connections will also be cancelled.
This step has been taken due to the limited reserves of natural gas in the country and the rising demand from households.
RLNG Connection Framework
The Petroleum Division has sent the approved framework to both Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) for implementation.
The framework comes with nine conditions, including:
RLNG connections can be provided to up to 50% of applicants each year.
Applicants who pay an “urgent fee” will receive fast-track installation within three months.
RLNG tariffs will be 70% higher than conventional domestic gas rates.
RLNG Connection Charges
The new framework has also fixed the security deposit and service charges for RLNG-based domestic connections:
Security deposit: Rs20,000
Service charges:
Rs1,500 for houses up to 10 marlas
Rs3,000 for larger houses
This means:
A standard household will pay Rs21,500
Larger properties will pay Rs23,000
Additionally, any household that has faced gas disconnection for over one year will only be eligible for RLNG-based connections.
Impact of the Decision
This policy marks a major shift in Pakistan’s domestic energy supply. With indigenous natural gas reserves declining, RLNG is expected to bridge the gap. However, higher costs may increase the burden on consumers already struggling with inflation and rising utility bills.
