PM Departs for UK After Signing Defense Deal with Saudi Arabia
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has concluded his official visit to Saudi Arabia and departed Riyadh for London. He was seen off at the airport by Prince Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Governor of Riyadh.
Before leaving, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude on social media platform X to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the warm reception. He highlighted that the welcome showcased the strong friendship and mutual respect between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He also noted that his meeting with the Crown Prince was productive, with discussions focusing on regional challenges and avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif had arrived in Riyadh a day earlier at the invitation of the Crown Prince. His arrival was marked by a grand reception, including an escort by Saudi F-15 fighter jets, a 21-gun salute, and a guard of honor from the Saudi armed forces.
During the visit, both nations signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), committing to enhanced security collaboration and a joint approach to regional and global threats. According to the agreement, an attack on one country will be treated as an attack on both, establishing a new era of defense partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The accord was signed at Al-Yamamah Palace on September 17, further strengthening the strategic ties between the two countries under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
