Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Electric Bus Service in Sahiwal

On Monday, September 22, 2025, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated a modern electric bus service in Sahiwal. She announced that the journey which earlier cost passengers hundreds of rupees will now be available for just 20 rupees.

Free Travel for Special Groups

During the ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said the service is free for women, students, senior citizens, and special persons. She highlighted that each bus has a special ramp for disabled passengers to ensure accessibility.

She told the youth, “This bus service is absolutely free for you. People of Sahiwal, I have brought these buses only for you.”

Message of Love from Nawaz Sharif

The Chief Minister also carried a message from her father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. She said, “Nawaz Sharif asked me to convey his love and greetings to the people of Sahiwal.”

Maryam added that she can never forget the love and respect she received from the people. From the helipad to the venue, locals stood on both sides of the road to welcome her.

62 Electric Buses for the Division

Maryam Nawaz announced that the Sahiwal division will receive 62 electric buses, out of which 30 are only for Sahiwal city. She said the decision to launch buses in smaller cities before Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala was made out of respect for the people of Sahiwal.

She added, “Now women and elderly people will travel with dignity and safety.”

Features of the Electric Buses

The Chief Minister shared that each bus is equipped with:

• Security cameras to prevent harassment.

• Wi-Fi facility for passengers.

• Comfortable seating for senior citizens.

She said this initiative will bring modern and safe public transport to smaller cities of Punjab.
