Sindh Govt launches welfare cards for workers
The Sindh government has introduced a new Workers’ Welfare Card, offering a complete welfare package for industrial workers.
According to Labour Secretary Rafiq Qureshi, the card will provide accident health insurance of up to Rs. 700,000, along with 10,000 e-motorcycles, sewing machines, and other benefits for workers.
Calling the program a “new and brighter chapter” for the labour community, Qureshi said that Sindh is the first province to launch accident insurance on such a large scale. The insurance will be valid in more than 270 hospitals across Pakistan.
He explained that out of the 10,000 e-motorcycles, a major share will go to women and minority workers in industries. This, he said, will not only help improve livelihoods but also promote environmental sustainability.
To further support women, the government has also included the distribution of sewing machines in the scheme, helping them gain economic independence.
Qureshi noted that the Welfare Card will make it easier for workers to access multiple facilities, including marriage and death grants, without standing in long queues.
He also warned industries against exploiting labour, stressing that strict action will be taken against those that fail to register their workers. At the same time, he urged employees to know their rights and make sure they are included in the welfare system.
