PM Shehbaz Sharif hails US president as 'man of peace' in rare White House meeting
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met United States President Donald J. Trump at the White House this afternoon. He was accompanied by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Army Staff.
Warm and Cordial Meeting
The discussions lasted more than an hour and were described as warm and cordial. Prime Minister Shehbaz praised President Trump, calling him a βman of peace.β He said Trumpβs leadership helped prevent a major catastrophe in South Asia by facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India earlier this year.
Talks on Middle East Peace
The Prime Minister also welcomed Trumpβs role in the Middle East. He praised the US presidentβs efforts to end the war in Gaza. Shehbaz highlighted Trumpβs recent initiative to gather Muslim leaders in New York for dialogue aimed at restoring peace in Gaza and the West Bank.
Economic Cooperation and Investment
Shehbaz thanked Trump for the tariff arrangement agreed between Pakistan and the US earlier this year. He said the agreement showed that relations between the two countries are on the right track. The Prime Minister invited American companies to invest in Pakistanβs agriculture, information technology, mines and minerals, and energy sectors.
Counter-Terrorism Partnership
Both leaders also discussed regional security. Cooperation against terrorism was a key point. Shehbaz thanked Trump for acknowledging Pakistanβs role in counter-terrorism. He emphasized the need to enhance intelligence sharing and joint security measures.
Invitation to Visit Pakistan
At the end of the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Pakistan at a convenient time. He expressed hope that the growing partnership would continue to bring mutual benefits for both nations.
