PM Thanks Trump After UNGA Speech, Calls for Lasting Peace
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after delivering his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), spoke to reporters and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace in South Asia.
“We have won the war; now we want to win peace,” the prime minister said, stressing that Pakistan’s response to India’s cross-border terrorism would remain strong but guided by the desire for stability.
Sharif described his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as “positive and held in a cordial environment.” He expressed gratitude on behalf of 240 million Pakistanis for Trump’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. “President Trump’s decision for a ceasefire was critical for lasting peace in South Asia,” he added.
The prime minister noted that discussions with Trump also covered bilateral ties, particularly trade and investment. Trump reportedly encouraged U.S. companies to visit Pakistan immediately and explore opportunities, while joint projects and agreements with American firms were also finalized.
Sharif emphasized that Pakistan’s government and people recognize and appreciate Trump’s role in stopping hostilities. “In acknowledgment of his efforts for peace, I have proposed President Trump’s name for the Nobel Peace Prize,” he said.
The prime minister concluded by underlining that Pakistan will continue to respond firmly to Indian aggression while keeping the broader goal of peace and development in sight.
