Punjab launches Free Wi-Fi service at more than 1,400 locations
The Punjab government has expanded the CM Free Wi-Fi Service to make internet more accessible for the public.
According to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), the service now covers 442 spots in Lahore, where over 58 million users have already used around 1191 terabytes of data.
The network is also available in 23 districts of Punjab, providing free internet at 952 public locations. These include busy urban centers and important public places where people often need online access.
In addition, the government has announced that free Wi-Fi will be launched in 450 women’s government colleges across Punjab. Officials said this step will help students access educational material more easily, improve safety, and allow quick access to emergency services.
To improve speed and reliability, the system has been upgraded with Wi-Fi 6 technology, which performs better even in crowded areas.
Authorities have made it clear that the free Wi-Fi is mainly for education, communication, and government services, not for entertainment like video streaming. To ensure fair use, content filters and usage management tools are in place.
With these efforts, the government hopes to reduce the digital divide, support students and citizens, and strengthen public safety across Punjab.
