Punjab’s ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ Scheme Disburses Rs 97 Billion for Affordable Housing

27 September, 2025 13:23

The Punjab government’s housing program, ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’, has made strong progress, with over Rs 97.3 billion already disbursed to eligible families. The scheme aims to provide affordable homes and financial support to low- and middle-income households across the province.

In a recent high-level meeting, Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin was updated on the project’s status by officials Sikandar Zeeshan, Director General of PHATA, and Project Director Waleed Iqbal. So far, 17,124 housing units have been completed, and loan repayments by beneficiaries have crossed Rs 1.97 billion, showing good participation.

The minister urged authorities to speed up the ongoing construction of 74,281 units, stressing the importance of finishing them on time to help families waiting for their homes.

More than 1.6 million people have registered on the project’s online portal, with 834,161 applications submitted. These applications are currently being reviewed, and houses will be allocated fairly according to the program’s transparent process.

Minister Yasin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing housing for 100,000 families by November, following Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s instructions. He also mentioned efforts by some groups to disrupt the program but assured that strong safeguards are in place to prevent interference.

The program is run by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) and combines financial aid, subsidized construction, and flexible loan repayments to keep homes affordable. Multiple monitoring levels, from district checks to provincial audits, ensure transparency and timely completion.
