Local Holiday Announced in RYK for Urs of Sufi Saint Khawaja Ghulam Farid

The district administration of Rahim Yar Khan has declared a local holiday on October 1 to observe the Urs of the revered Sufi saint and poet, Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Farid.

According to an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez, “all government and semi-government offices across the district will remain closed on that day.”

The annual Urs celebrations attract thousands of devotees from across Pakistan who gather for spiritual gatherings and events to honor Khawaja Ghulam Farid’s enduring legacy.

This announcement comes shortly after a similar holiday was declared in Sheikhupura on September 24, marking the 228th Urs of Syed Waris Shah, another celebrated Sufi poet. The Sheikhupura notification, issued by Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth, stated that “all district government offices were closed to facilitate celebrations and public participation in the Urs of Syed Waris Shah.”

Both holidays highlight the cultural and spiritual importance of Sufi traditions in the region.
