PM Shehbaz Hails Trump as “Visionary Peacemaker”, Praises COAS Munir as Champions of Peace

29 September, 2025 10:24

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised former U.S. President Donald Trump as a “visionary peacemaker” for his role in de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, crediting him with preventing what could have become a devastating regional conflict.

Speaking to Pakistani media during a visit to London, PM Shehbaz emphasized that Trump’s diplomatic efforts were crucial in averting war. “Had President Trump not acted, South Asia could have witnessed a catastrophic war,” he stated. In recognition of Trump’s intervention and global diplomacy, Pakistan has formally nominated him for a peace prize.

The prime minister also commended Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, highlighting his leadership and unwavering dedication to national interests. “General Asim Munir is a true nationalist. He prioritizes Pakistan’s interests above all. Under his command, both the Army and Air Force have achieved significant success. We discuss all major decisions together and act in unity,” Sharif said, noting the close coordination between Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership.

He further described Pakistan’s recent defence agreement with Saudi Arabia as a major diplomatic milestone. Calling the pact “historic” and of “global impact,” Sharif said it sends a strong message of peace and international cooperation.

The prime minister confirmed that former premier Nawaz Sharif had been kept fully informed about his diplomatic engagements in the United States and Saudi Arabia, and had endorsed all decisions taken during the visits.

Sharif also expressed optimism over Trump’s recent meeting with Muslim leaders in Washington, aimed at reducing tensions in Gaza. He reiterated Pakistan’s active role in supporting peace efforts in Palestine and called for an end to Israeli aggression. “We pray that the cruelty and suffering in Gaza will come to an end soon,” he said.

The Pakistani delegation to the summit included Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The high-profile meeting—co-hosted by Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani—took place on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, with leaders from several Muslim-majority countries including Turkey, Jordan, Indonesia, Egypt, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan in attendance.
