Court Stops KU from Cancelling Justice Jahangiri’s Degree

03 October, 2025 14:57

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has stopped Karachi University from cancelling the law degree of Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, a judge at the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Justice Jahangiri had asked the SHC to declare the university’s cancellation of his degree invalid. The court also told the university not to take any further action against him until the case is decided.

During the hearing, the university’s registrar asked for more time to reply to the court. The court agreed and postponed the case.

This case began after Karachi University said Justice Jahangiri’s law degree was cancelled because he was accused of cheating during his exams. The university’s committee said he was not even enrolled as a student in 1989.

Because of this, a part of the Islamabad High Court stopped Justice Jahangiri from working as a judge on September 16. Justice Jahangiri and four other judges asked the Supreme Court to review this decision.

On September 29, the Supreme Court suspended the order that stopped Justice Jahangiri from working as a judge.

Now, the SHC is handling the case about the cancellation of the law degree. The university has to respond before the court can make a final decision.
