Cyclonic Storm Likely to Form Over Arabian Sea, PMD Warns Fishermen

03 October, 2025 19:06

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday said a deep depression over the northeast Arabian Sea is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by the end of today and further strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours over the central-north Arabian Sea.

Under its influence, light to moderate wind-thunderstorms and rain are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Matiari, and Jamshoro districts. Isolated rain is also expected in Karachi division. Hot and dry weather will prevail in most other parts of Sindh.

The PMD warned that sea conditions would remain “rough to very rough” with squally winds of 40 to 55 km/hour near the Sindh coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea until Sunday.

It also cautioned that windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures such as roofs, walls of temporary houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.

For Karachi, the weather is forecast to remain mostly cloudy and humid with chances of light drizzle on Saturday. Maximum temperature is expected to be 32-34°C, with humidity between 75-85% in the morning and 60-70% in the evening.

Earlier, the PMD had noted that between October 4 and 6, moist currents from both the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea are likely to strengthen, increasing the chances of rain in parts of Sindh.
