KMC declares Natha Khan bridge unsafe
KMC declares Natha Khan bridge unsafe
The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has declared the Natha Khan Bridge unsafe after serious structural damage was discovered.
Steel theft from 19 beams has caused large cracks and even a pothole in the middle lane. Officials warn that new cracks could appear at any time, making the bridge dangerous for daily use.
A quick repair of the pothole is expected within the next 25 days, but traffic delays on Shahrah-e-Faisal are already creating major problems, especially during rush hours.
Alternate Routes Suggested
Commuters are being asked to avoid Shahrah-e-Faisal during peak times and use alternate routes such as:
-
Malir Expressway
-
Karsaz Road
-
Drigh Road
-
Rashid Minhas Road
Future Plan for Bridge
To ease traffic and ensure safety, KMC plans to build a temporary road on nearby land owned by the CDO and Airport Authority. This road will take about six months to complete. After that, the Natha Khan Bridge will be demolished and rebuilt as part of a long-term safety and traffic improvement plan.
Advisory for Residents
-
Avoid Shahrah-e-Faisal during peak hours.
-
Use suggested alternate routes.
-
Stay updated through official KMC announcements.
The KMC has assured residents that it is regularly monitoring the bridge and taking steps to manage safety and traffic in the area.
