First of the three Supermoons to light up Pakistan’s sky on this date

Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Sparco) has announced that the first supermoon of 2025 will be visible across the country on October 7. This rare celestial event will make the moon appear noticeably larger and brighter than usual, providing a stunning spectacle for skywatchers nationwide.

According to a Sparco spokesperson, the supermoon will rise from the eastern horizon shortly after sunset at 8:47 PM local time. It will remain visible throughout the night, setting in the west just before dawn, allowing ample time for enthusiasts to observe the phenomenon.

Astronomical experts have confirmed that the October supermoon will appear approximately 6.6 percent larger and 13 percent brighter compared to a regular full moon. The event is expected to be especially impressive for viewers in open areas with clear skies.

“This is an extraordinary opportunity for all Pakistanis to witness the moon in its full glory,” said the Sparco spokesperson, encouraging the public to take advantage of this unique event.

Sparco further noted that 2025 will feature three supermoons in total, with the second expected on November 5 and the third on December 5. Experts predict that the November supermoon will be the brightest of the year.

A supermoon occurs when the moon reaches its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear larger and more luminous than usual. This astronomical event offers a rare chance for observers to enjoy a captivating view of the natural satellite.

In a separate statement, the Director General of Sparco highlighted the significance of the timing, linking the supermoon event with Pakistan’s recent satellite launch. “Such events are not only a testament to our advancements in space technology but also serve as a reminder of the wonders of the universe,” he said.
