Sanam Javaid Arrested in Peshawar

07 October, 2025 09:48

Peshawar: Sanam Javaid, a well-known social media activist linked with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was reportedly arrested in Peshawar on Monday. According to early reports, her vehicle was stopped by two unidentified cars on a busy road, and she was forcefully taken away.

Eyewitnesses say Sanam was dragged out of her car in front of others and taken in an unknown direction. Former federal minister Sheikh Waqas Akram confirmed the incident on social media and claimed that Sanam was taken away against her will.

So far, no official statement has been issued by the local police or any government agency. It is still unclear whether any charges have been filed against her or where she is being held.

PTI has strongly condemned the incident and demanded Sanam Javaid’s immediate release. The party has also called for transparency and accountability regarding her alleged arrest.

Sister Falak Javaid Still in Jail

Sanam’s sister, Falak Javaid, also a PTI activist, remains in custody. She was arrested a few weeks ago by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in a case related to uploading fake videos of Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari.

Falak was picked up from a flat in Islamabad. Her lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed her arrest. The case dates back to August 2024, when the FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing registered a case against six people, including Falak.

Azma Bukhari had later approached the Lahore High Court for action after the videos were circulated online.

PTI leaders and human rights groups are calling for justice and a fair investigation in both cases.
