Two Years of Israeli Attacks Leave Gaza in Ruins – UN Report
Gaza: Two years have passed since Israel began its attacks on Gaza, and a new report from the United Nations agency UNRWA shows the massive destruction and human suffering that has taken place.
According to the report, almost 80 percent of the buildings in Gaza have been destroyed or badly damaged. A total of 845 people were killed while taking shelter in UNRWA facilities. More than 370 UNRWA staff members have also lost their lives during the conflict.
The report states that Israel carried out over 790 attacks on medical staff and health facilities. As a result, only 4 out of 22 UNRWA health centers are still working. The situation is also critical for farmers, as over 98 percent of Gaza’s agricultural land has either been destroyed or is no longer accessible.
Water and sanitation systems in Gaza have also suffered, with nearly 90 percent of them destroyed or badly damaged. The crisis has deeply affected education as well, with about 660,000 children unable to go to school for a long time.
UNRWA’s report highlights the urgent need for international support to help rebuild Gaza and stop further suffering of its people.
