Ali Amin Gandapur Resigns as KP Chief Minister on Imran Khan’s Instructions
Ali Amin Gandapur Out, Sohail Afridi to Become KP CM
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur announced his resignation on Imran Khan’s instructions on Wednesday. He confirmed the decision in a Facebook post, moments after reports surfaced about his removal from office.
“I am resigning from the office of chief minister on the instructions of our party founder Imran Khan,” Gandapur wrote, pledging full support to PTI’s nominee Sohail Afridi.
Gandapur Backs Sohail Afridi as New Chief Minister
Gandapur said he had complete confidence in Sohail Afridi and would stand behind him. He added that all PTI members would continue to work together for Imran Khan’s release and the party’s mission.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja confirmed that Imran Khan had directed Gandapur to step down, calling it a decision made in the party’s best interest.
“It is correct that Ali Amin Gandapur is being removed from office,” Raja told reporters in Rawalpindi. He said Afridi would soon be elected as the new KP chief minister.
PTI Prepares for New Policy and Fresh Beginning
Raja said PTI was planning to announce a new policy and a fresh beginning in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He highlighted the growing terrorism threat in the province and called on the new leadership to guide the federal government wisely.
He also criticised the federal authorities for their policy on Afghan nationals, calling their expulsion “unnecessary.”
“The only way to end terrorism is to sit together and negotiate,” Raja said, stressing dialogue over conflict.
Rifts Deepen Within PTI Leadership
Gandapur’s resignation follows reports of internal rifts within PTI. The KP CM had recently clashed with Aleema Khan, Imran Khan’s sister. Both had exchanged accusations publicly, prompting the PTI founder to instruct them to stop commenting.
Sources said Gandapur had warned Imran Khan about vloggers promoting Aleema as the next PTI chairperson and even prime minister.
What’s Next for PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
With Sohail Afridi expected to take charge soon, PTI aims to stabilise the KP government and strengthen its position against rising security challenges. Party insiders say a new strategic roadmap will be unveiled soon, focusing on unity, policy reform, and governance.
