Ghotki:  A tragic incident has rocked the journalism community in Pakistan as Tufail Rind, General Secretary of the Mirpur Mathelo Press Club, was shot dead in a targeted attack in Ghotki District, Sindh.

According to initial reports, Tufail Rind was attacked by armed assailants while dropping his children off at school. The gunmen opened fire near Jaroar Road, Masu Wah, critically injuring Rind and his 8-year-old niece, Rina, who was with him at the time.

Both victims were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Mirpur Mathelo, where Tufail Rind was declared dead on arrival. Sadly, young Rina also succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward.

Police have confirmed that the attack appears to be a targeted killing, and an investigation is underway. The motive behind the killing is still unknown.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon, and the Sindh Home Minister expressed deep sorrow over the killing. They assured the public and media community that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and the killers will be brought to justice.

The tragic killing has sparked outrage and concern among journalists and media organizations across the country. Many are demanding stronger protections for journalists, especially in conflict-prone and rural areas.

This incident once again raises serious questions about the safety and security of journalists in Pakistan, where reporters—especially in smaller districts—often face threats while doing their jobs.
