Public Transport, Schools Suspended in Lahore Amid Security Concerns
Lahore is facing major disruptions as the Orange Line train and Metro Bus services have been suspended across the city. Thousands of commuters are stranded as many main routes remain blocked due to the current law and order situation.
Officials confirmed that key bus stations, including the City Terminal and Rahbar Terminal, have been closed, bringing Lahore’s public transport system to a halt. Similar suspensions of Metro Bus and CDA-operated bus services were also reported in Islamabad, affecting daily commuters there.
Along with transport shutdowns, all schools and universities in Lahore have been given early holidays to ensure student safety. The CEO of Education Lahore confirmed that institutions were informed earlier to help reduce inconvenience for parents and students amid traffic restrictions.
The Higher Education Department ordered the closure of all colleges and universities in Lahore. Punjab University issued a notification announcing its closure, suspending all classes and evacuating students from the campus as a precaution. The LLB exams scheduled for today at Punjab University have been postponed, while exams planned for October 13 will continue as scheduled.
To maintain public safety, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province for 10 days. This order bans the gathering of four or more people in public places, streets, neighborhoods, and open areas. The restrictions took effect immediately and are aimed at preventing unrest.
However, the government clarified that the ban does not apply to prayers, weddings, funerals, offices, or courts. The use of loudspeakers, public gatherings, and the display of weapons are completely banned during this period throughout Punjab.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as they work to restore normalcy in Lahore and other affected areas.
