Emergency KP Assembly Session Likely to Be Called Today Amid Political Uncertainty
PESHAWAR: In a major political development, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is expected to issue a formal notification today for an emergency session of the provincial assembly, reliable sources confirmed on Friday.
According to insiders, the decision to convene the KP Assembly session was made during a high-level consultative meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. The meeting was attended by senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, legal advisors, and members of the provincial cabinet.
Sources said that the consultation focused on current political tensions within the province and the uncertain status of recently appointed Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. Legal and constitutional options were thoroughly discussed by PTI’s legal team during the meeting.
While the official assembly session notification has not yet been released, it is expected to be issued later today. The emergency session could be held within the next 24 to 48 hours, depending on internal procedural approvals.
One of the key points discussed during the meeting was the possibility of tabling a vote of no confidence in the assembly. Sources close to the matter stated that if Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation is not accepted or processed formally, a no-confidence motion may be introduced in the KP Assembly as a constitutional step to resolve the leadership dispute.
The situation has arisen following reports of internal differences within PTI’s provincial leadership and questions surrounding the legitimacy or acceptance of recent political decisions. The possibility of a power shift or leadership challenge has further intensified political activity in KP.
All eyes are now on the KP Assembly Secretariat, which is expected to release an official declaration shortly. Meanwhile, political observers are closely monitoring developments as the potential no-confidence motion could trigger a major change in the province’s leadership.
The evolving situation adds to the broader political instability being witnessed across several parts of Pakistan in recent weeks.
