Heavy Security Deployed in Gujranwala to Control Protest Situation
The Punjab government has put strong security measures in place in Gujranwala and Lahore due to protests by a religious group.
In Gujranwala, several roads, including GT Road at Sadhoki and Kamonki, have been closed, causing heavy traffic problems. Trenches were dug on Chanda Qila Bypass and near Wazirabad to stop vehicles from entering the city. Other roads like Sheikhupura Road, Sialkot Road, and Aziz Cross Bypass were blocked with containers. Many security forces and checkpoints have been set up to control the situation and monitor movement.
In Lahore, clashes between police and protesters led to injuries on both sides. Police used tear gas and baton charges to break up the crowds when protesters tried to block important roads. Due to safety concerns, the Orange Line Metro Train and Metro Bus services have been temporarily stopped. This suspension, combined with road closures, caused major inconvenience for commuters.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to maintain peace and order in both cities.
