Law enforcement Traced TLP Chief Saad Rizvi After Muridke Violence
Lahore: Law enforcement agencies in Pakistan have traced the whereabouts of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) leader Saad Rizvi and his close associate Ins Rizvi. Sources say both will be arrested soon. It remains unclear whether they were injured during the recent violence. Officials have urged them to surrender immediately if they are hurt so they can receive proper medical care.
The developments follow a violent protest led by TLP in Muridke during the night between October 12 and 13. The clash resulted in the death of a police officer and injuries to dozens of others. According to police officials, the protest began with attempts at negotiation. Authorities had directed the demonstrators to shift to a less sensitive area. However, during the talks, the TLP leadership reportedly continued to incite the crowd.
Violence erupted as the protesters used stones, petrol bombs, and nail-studded sticks against police. Several officers were attacked, and weapons were snatched from them. Forensic reports indicate that the same stolen weapons were used in the shooting during the protest. To control the situation and prevent further loss of life, police deployed tear gas and carried out baton charges. In response, the protesters became more aggressive and launched coordinated attacks at multiple locations.
The riots caused severe damage. At least 40 government and private vehicles were set on fire, and several shops were also burned. During the confrontation, 48 police officers were injured, including 17 who suffered gunshot wounds. They were shifted to hospitals for treatment.
Initial reports confirm that three TLP workers and one bystander lost their lives, while around 30 civilians were injured. Protesters also hijacked several vehicles, including a university bus, and used them during the protest. Eyewitnesses claimed some vehicles were deliberately driven toward crowds to cause harm.
Authorities have described the incident as part of a planned and violent campaign. The police state that the TLP leadership not only encouraged the violence but later fled, putting civilians and state institutions at risk. They added that snatching weapons, using petrol bombs, and torching vehicles cannot be considered peaceful protest. Several suspects have been arrested, while search operations for the remaining individuals, including Saad Rizvi, are ongoing.
Officials condemned the loss of innocent lives, especially the bystander’s death, calling it a moment of national concern. They stressed the need for a united strategy to protect public lives and property.
