NADRA removes fee for NICOP cancellation – October 2025 update
ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that there will no longer be any fee for cancelling the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) after the cardholder’s death.
According to NADRA, this step aims to make it easier to register the deaths of overseas Pakistanis and update official records more efficiently. The decision was made under the directive of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
Now, family members such as parents, siblings, spouse, or children can cancel the NICOP of a deceased relative free of cost. Previously, NADRA charged Rs1,420 for this process.
To cancel the NICOP, the family must first register the death with the local Union Council or Pakistan embassy. After that, they can use the Pak ID Mobile App or visit the nearest NADRA center.
Another major change is that families will no longer need to physically submit the deceased person’s NICOP card.
NADRA stated that this initiative will help reduce the administrative burden on grieving families and encourage timely registration of deaths.
The NICOP is a special ID card issued to overseas Pakistanis who have dual nationality with a country that has a dual nationality agreement with Pakistan. It also allows them to travel to Pakistan without a visa.
