Security Forces Foil Suicide Attack in Mir Ali, 4 Militants Killed
A suicide attack on a security forces camp in Mir Ali was foiled on Friday after a vehicle-borne explosive device struck the camp’s perimeter and detonated, security sources said.
The initial blast was followed by an attempted incursion by three armed attackers who tried to enter the camp, but quick and coordinated action by security personnel stopped them outside the compound and all three were killed, officials added. Authorities said there were no casualties or injuries among the security forces.
According to local security officials, the attacker driving the explosive-laden vehicle rammed the camp wall, triggering the explosion. The three subsequent assailants attempted to breach the camp on foot, but were engaged immediately by sentries and responding units. Security sources described the response as timely and effective, crediting the alertness of troops on duty for limiting damage and preventing any loss of life among personnel.
Officials also claimed that, in related operations over the previous 48 hours, security forces had eliminated 88 militants described as being supported by elements of the Afghan Taliban. These figures were provided by security sources and have not been independently verified. Military and local authorities said the recent counterterror operations were launched under the framework of the National Action Plan and aimed at dismantling militant infrastructure in the region.
The attack and subsequent operations have heightened security activity across North Waziristan, with checkpoints reinforced and area sweeps conducted to search for any remaining hostile elements or explosive material. Local administration and security officials said they are investigating the incident, collecting forensic evidence from the blast site and reviewing CCTV and witness accounts to determine the attackers’ routes and any external support networks.
The attack prompted statements from regional authorities reaffirming their commitment to continued operations until militant threats are eliminated. Security officials emphasized that protecting civilians and maintaining stability in the tribal districts remain priorities, and they urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity and providing information that could aid ongoing investigations.
Residents of Mir Ali and surrounding areas reported alarm and disruption following the blast, with some civilians briefly displaced from homes close to the camp as security forces secured the area and cleared potential secondary threats. Local hospitals reported receiving no blast victims from the camp incident, consistent with official statements that security personnel were unhurt, though nearby communities expressed concern over renewed violence and its impact on daily life.
Analysts note that attacks of this type, involving vehicle-borne explosives followed by armed infiltrations, aim to overwhelm perimeter defenses and create openings for larger-scale assaults. Security officials, however, said that improved intelligence, better perimeter security, and rapid response protocols have reduced the success rate of such attacks in recent years. The military reiterated its pledge to continue operations under the National Action Plan until the last militant threat in the area is neutralized.
Further details are expected as investigations continue and as security authorities release additional information. Local civil administration and security spokespeople have asked the media and public to rely on official briefings for accurate information and to avoid spreading unverified reports that could hamper ongoing security operations.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in this regard has praised Pakistan’s security forces for successfully foiling a terrorist attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan.
In a statement, Mohsin Naqvi commended the forces for their professionalism and bravery in eliminating four militants during the attack. He said the terrorists’ evil plans were crushed by the courage and quick response of the security personnel.
“The brave sons of the nation who stopped this attack deserve our full respect. The entire nation is proud of their courage and sacrifice,” said the interior minister.
Mohsin Naqvi highlighted that the timely action by the forces saved lives and prevented any damage. “The militants met a humiliating end thanks to the alert and professional response of our forces,” he added.
The foiled attack comes as Pakistan’s security forces continue to carry out operations under the National Action Plan to eliminate terrorism from the country. Over the past two days, 88 militants have been killed in counterterror operations, according to official sources.
The minister reiterated that the government stands firmly with the armed forces and law enforcement agencies in their efforts to protect the country and ensure lasting peace.
