PPP Gives Federal Govt. One-Month Deadline to Fulfil Commitments

18 October, 2025 22:20

Karachi: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders have given the federal government a one-month deadline to fulfill its commitments, warning that failure to do so will prompt a political response.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, PPP leader Sherry Rehman said the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, chaired by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, reaffirmed the party’s resolve to stand united against terrorism.

Recalling the Karsaz tragedy of October 18, 2007, she said, “A sea of people had come out to welcome Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, but terrorists targeted her convoy.”

Sherry Rehman added that the CEC unanimously condemned terrorism and expressed full solidarity with Pakistan’s armed forces. “We stand shoulder to shoulder with our military against all threats,” she stated.

She further noted that Bilawal Bhutto had demanded the waiver of electricity bills for flood victims, and the government’s move to grant that relief was commendable. “Wherever floods struck, we called for immediate relief,” she said, adding that the government now has one month to deliver on its promises.

“If the commitments made to the people are not fulfilled, the matter will be taken up with the Prime Minister again,” she cautioned.

PPP leader Nadeem Afzal Chan criticized the government’s handling of economic and energy issues, saying that expensive electricity has forced major industries in Faisalabad to shut down. He also accused the authorities of using the IMF as an excuse for not purchasing wheat, which he said had unfairly affected Sindh’s share as well.

The PPP leaders reiterated that the party remains committed to the people’s welfare and will continue to hold the government accountable for its promises.
