Tomato Prices Soar to Rs700 Per Kg, Other Vegetables Price Also Surge Across Cities

19 October, 2025 15:33

Vegetable prices have surged sharply across Pakistan, intensifying the hardships faced by citizens already burdened by inflation. Tomatoes, in particular, have witnessed unprecedented price hikes in major cities.

According to the details, in Karachi, tomato prices have escalated to Rs700 per kilogram, despite the government’s official rate being Rs322. In Federal B Area, tomatoes are being sold at Rs650 per kilogram, while in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Burns Road, prices have reached Rs700 per kilogram. Until last week, the same tomatoes were priced between Rs240 and Rs300 per kilogram.

Other staples have also seen significant increases. Onion prices have risen by Rs20, reaching Rs130 per kilogram. Potato prices have increased by Rs10, bringing them to Rs80 per kilogram. Meanwhile, coriander and mint are being sold at Rs35 per bunch. Additionally, cauliflower, eggplant, ridge gourd, and bitter gourd have all seen price increases ranging from Rs10 to Rs20 per kilogram.

The price surge is not limited to Karachi. In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, rising vegetable costs have severely impacted citizens’ purchasing power. In Peshawar, tomatoes have now crossed the fourth-century mark in price after doubling and tripling in recent weeks.

Faisalabad is facing similar challenges, with administrative lapses enabling shopkeepers to inflate prices further. Currently, peas and tomatoes are being sold at Rs500 per kilogram, reflecting a serious market imbalance.
