Earthquake Shakes Parts of KP, Islamabad, No Damage Reported
Islamabad: An earthquake hit parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the federal capital Islamabad, and surrounding areas late at night. No casualties or property damage have been reported.
According to the Seismological Center, the quake struck at 11:15 PM with a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of 234 kilometers.
Tremors were strongly felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Chitral, Malakand, Dir, and nearby areas. Other affected districts included Charsadda, Risalpur, Nowshera, Rustam, Buner, Bajaur, Swat, and Takht Bhai.
During the quake, many residents rushed out of their homes in fear and recited prayers.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that all district administrations have been put on alert, and the control room is in constant communication.
PDMA has requested the public to report any emergency or incident immediately by calling the helpline at 1700.
